family ministry

Picture
The Family Ministry of First Christian Church desires to meet family members at every stage of life, and equip them to take the next step in their spiritual journey.

Our Goals:

1.  Provide quality environments for all ages, where Biblical Truths are taught through age-appropriate activities and worship times.
2.  Support parents, grandparents, and families, with resources and ideas for Biblical teaching in the home.
3.  Encourage volunteers to explore their spiritual gifts as they connect with children, students, and families.

Each week, our Family Ministry environments provide a Home Connection, to encourage families to connect with each other and God's word.  To access this resource and additional resources, please visit our Home Connection page.

Creative Kids 4 Christ (Infants-Elementary Students)

Picture
We believe children learn best in environments created just for them! That’s why we offer worship services, Sunday School classes, and small groups designed specifically with children in mind!  Our Sunday morning environments cater to infants, toddlers, preschoolers, early elementary, and late elementary children and their specific needs, so they can experience God at work in their world.  On Wednesday nights, we meet in age level groups, and leaders work with the same group of children over the course of the entire school year!

We also believe that what happens at home is even more important than what happens at church.  That’s why we put so much emphasis on equipping parents, grandparents, and families.  We provide weekly take-home activities and quarterly devotions with discussion topics so what happens at church and home connects.

We look forward to serving your family, and helping you lay the foundation for your child’s life in Christ.

Jump! (grades 5-6)

Picture

Studies have shown that the transition from elementary to junior high is just as difficult for a child as the transition from high school to college.  That’s why we spend 2 full years helping children make that “JUMP!” from children’s ministry to youth ministry.  On Wednesday nights, we offer a small group designed specifically for 5th and 6th graders.  They will have the opportunity to socialize with their peers, and connect with trusted adults as they begin to live out the Biblical truths they learned in children’s ministry.

Parents and family are so important during this time of transition.  We want to continue to equip you to be the spiritual leaders in your preteen’s life.  We will do this through weekly take-home tips and communication, as well as providing devotions and discussion topics based on the weekly theme.

We look forward to serving your family, as you and your preteen starts to build on their spiritual foundation.

Revolution (Junior High & High School Students)

Picture

The middle school and high school years are full of emotions.  Students are experiencing physical and emotional changes, and learning who they are and where they stand in their social sphere.  We want to lean in to this time by showing students what God says about them, and how they fit in the body of Christ.  A student is more likely to stick with their faith if they are serving in an active way in high school, so we offer a chance for them to do just that!  While all middle school and high school students are encouraged to serve in some way, Juniors and seniors are given the unique opportunity to mentor our younger children through our Wednesday night eLev8 small groups.

At that same time our students are discovering who they are and gaining their independence, parents are learning to let go.  We still support our parents during this time with weekly discussion prompts and emails, but we also want to encourage you to teach your child to take steps in their own relationship with Christ.

Our goal at this stage is to help parents see unique opportunities in the lives of their teenagers to help them continue to build their faith.

Adults

Picture
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”  Psalm 18:2

"18:2 Life" is our education program for adults.  While the name is definitely a play on the broad spectrum of age groups represented by adult ministry, it also is a reminder to our adults of who God is and how we relate to Him.

Our desire is that young adults, newlyweds, parents, grandparents, and our senior saints would all seek to live a life based on Psalm 18:2.  We want to teach our adults that they can go to God when they need a firm foundation (rock), protection (fortress), and even when they need rescued (deliverer).

Most of our Sunday morning classes are divided by age, to allow the teaching to apply directly to that stage of life.  However, we encourage our adults to connect inter-generationally, to seek out mentoring relationships within the church, and to lead their children and grandchildren in learning right along with them.  We do this by offering special Sunday morning classes throughout the year that encourage discussion between different generations.

We also offer bible studies on Wednesday nights during the school year.

Sunday Morning Activities:

9:30 AM - Education Classes

Wednesday Evening Activities (Sept-Apr):
5:30-6:10  -  Dinner (all ages)
6:10-6:30  -  Worship (all ages)
6:30-7:30  -  Bible Study Groups (Contact the church office for a list of current Bible Studies)

Moms

Picture
The Mom Connection is a time for moms to be encouraged while
their children are cared for.  We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of
the month from 9-11am.  Moms of all ages are invited to attend.
Each meeting consists of a time to connect with other moms over
breakfast, a time to connect with God through devotions and a Bible
study, a speaker to encourage moms, and an activity to help us
apply the teaching for the month.  The Mom Connection meets
September through May, and takes breaks during
regular school breaks or cancelations.  Meeting topics for this year
focus on connection.  We'll hear speakers and participate in activities
that help us better connect with God, our spouse, our children, our
friends, and our community.  For a detailed list of meeting topics,
                                                 please contact the church office.

We offer childcare during meetings for children who aren't in school
yet.  Classes a split by age, and include a Bible lesson and activities.
No snacks are served for the children, due to food allergies.  All
childcare workers have been background checked and trained.

Safety and Security

Picture
We take the safety and security of our families very seriously at FCC.  For that reason, all of our Family Ministry volunteers have had a national background check, and have gone through training in caring for children, teaching, classroom management, and emergency procedures.

We also ask that all children, infants through high school, check in and out of our Family Ministry sessions.  We have computer generated security badges for all children and adults, and parent pick-up tags for our children elementary and younger.  If you will be attending for the first time, please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can walk through the registration process with you and make sure your child is comfortable in their environment before you leave to attend your class or the Sunday service.

During all of our Family Ministry events, we have a security team on duty to assist in addressing emergency situations, and to ensure that all of our environments and children remain safe.
