Communion:

While we are unable to gather together for communion, we encourage you to take communion in your home.  Remember, it's not the actual wafer and cup of juice served each week that makes the act of communion sacred, but it's doing it "In Remembrance of Me."  Use items you have at home and gather together as a family around the table to remember the sacrifice Christ made for us.  Here is a communion meditation prepared by Bob Cupp, our elder of the week.

Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-7

Several months ago, Steve Frensemeier asked as an opening devotion question at our Men’s Prayer Breakfast “What are you worth?’ It’s a question we all ask at some point in our lives and, depending on our moods or situations, produces different answers. On that Saturday morning I immediately thought of what I heard as a kid about the value of all the compounds and minerals in our bodies.  If we could sell all the stuff that makes up the human body, what would we be worth (about $2.00 at the time)?  Steve thought about the same question. He had Googled it and found that our physical value was worth not much more than 60 years ago (less than $3.00).

When I got home from the breakfast, I decided to Google it myself. What I found was a similar value to what Steve had found.  I also found a site of some science guy that had gone deeper into the question.  He found, considering not only the water, oxygen, etc., but also the rare earth metals contained by the human body, we are worth much more than the 2 or 3 bucks Steve and I found.  His scientific calculation was up to $5.74.  Made me feel better!

When it comes to physical possessions or personal talent, we often hear a different answer to what is it worth?  I might think that my family heirloom is worth thousands until I go on Antiques Roadshow.  Tom Brady might think his value for one year at quarterback is $100,000,000.  The truth to the answer is that they both are worth what someone is willing to pay for them.  The truth to Steve’s original question is the same.  “What are you worth?”  The true answer is, You are worth what someone is willing to pay for you.

I think you see where I am going with this.  We have completed a week of unimaginable sadness and unprecedented challenges.  We are also finishing a week when we celebrate the greatest gift we could ever hope for.  The gift, and how it was paid for, is what we are worth.  God thinks we are worth the sacrifice of His Son. His Son thinks it was worth suffering as we, in our worst nightmare, could never dream.  We, today, through His resurrection, are celebrating with joyous spirits.  We are worth what nothing else could ever buy!
